Thinking…

By Jay. Posted in Misc. | No Comments »

This won’t be another post where there’ll be cliché statements to hopefully sway your opinions and to work hard for the band. Instead, I’ll be posting about my personal feelings and thoughts about some experiences I’ve had with the band thus far.

Looking back, the question I now ask myself is, “Am I proud to say I played this?”. Listening to Hawaii ‘10 recordings just a few minutes ago, I’ll have to sadly say my answer is no, and I’m quite sure that’ll be most of your answers too. Yes, we did work hard, but we didn’t work hard enough, and I’m quite sure our recording expresses that idea more than sufficiently. Out of tune notes, missing that semiquaver by that millisecond, not coming in together, once we’ve played it for the competition, its imprinted there forever, along with all the regrets we’ve had with it and its definitely not something I dare say “Yes I’m proud to say I played that”.

To the sec 1s, you guys might not have experienced a real competition or a concert yet, but you will very very soon, and once again, the question arises, “Are you proud of what you’re playing?”

- pause and think for a moment -

If the answer is no, make sure you practice hard enough until the answer is a yes. When you say your answer is a yes, make sure this standard can be there every single time you play and leave nothing to luck or chance. This applies to the rest of the band as well. NBC is this saturday, theres very little time left, but do make use of every minute, every second of these remaining few days to make your recording something you’re proud to say you played. Really, nothing feels better than walking off that stage or platform with the knowledge that you played your best. Likewise, nothing feels worse than knowing you could’ve played that note in tune if you only practiced for 5 more mins on that note, or fumbling on a set of running notes which you could’ve nailed if you spent just a few more minutes working on it. Believe me, I’ve experienced both cases and i very very very very very much prefer the former.

How you decide to view this message and whether or not you will work towards getting this “yes” all depends on yourself. But I know I’ll be working towards this “yes” and I will achieve it.

Love,

Jay :)
