2005
Again, we participated in the Balloon Hats Festival, however, this time, courses on building creative balloons were conducted. This year, the String Orchestra also joined us in raising funds for charity. In December 2005, about 30 members of the Band participated in the Bangkok exchange trip. In the end, although the exchange with Mahidol University was cancelled, we managed to witness a spectacular display band competition (All Thailand Display Band Fest), which was a huge array of colours and music. We also had a great time of bonding together.
2006
The HCI Band made a comeback to the local marching scene in 2006 and was awarded a “Certificate of Distinction” at the SYF 2006 Assessment of Marching Bands for secondary schools. In recognition of our outstanding performance, our band was invited to perform to SYF @ Ngee Ann City and Police Parade 2006. We also participated in CHINGAY! Parade of Dreams that year.
2007
Year 2007 has been an eventful year for the band. We have participated in numerous events which provided very enriching learning experiences.
In the 2007 SYF Central Judging, we won a silver award. In August, the band was invited to perform at the opening ceremony of the 5th Band Convention at Raffles Town Club. We were also invited to perform at Namly Park, with important guests, Minster for Education, Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Mr. Christopher De Souza, MP for Holland-Bukit Timah GRC gracing the occasion.
Within the school, the band brought much colour and festivity to the National Day Celebrations. We are grateful to our instructors Mr Darence Leng and Mr Lim Lip Hua as well as our outdoor display choreographer Mr Lawrence Siao for their patient teaching and inspiration. With the support and guidance of our band teachers Ms Melissa Choo, Mrs Rachel Chan and Ms Quah Lee Hwang, we are sure that band will reach greater musical heights.
